A history of the first export markets :
The Abbey of Scourmont being located only a few kilometres from the French border, it is only natural that the first Trappist beers of Chimay to be exported went to France. Other bordering countries followed, then Italy and soon distant countries such as the United-States and Japan.
Today, Bières de Chimay exports 50% of its production, principally to the following markets :
France, United States, Japan, Denmark, Italy, The Netherlands, Luxemburg, England, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Russia, Croatia, Ukraine, Romania, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, ...
A pioneer in many of these countries, Chimay was one of the very first beers to be represented there, and today remains one of the best known and appreciated. It is an incontrovertible landmark among Belgian beers.
Our objective for the future is to strengthen our presence where we are already established, and also to open up new markets, all around the world.
