A life of prayer, study and work

A monastic community is a large family consisting of people sharing the same ideal. The main thing in their life is union with God through prayer. This is augmented by study and meditation on the word of God. The monks are also preoccupied with earning their living through work.

In this environment of solitude, tranquillity and simple beauty that they have provided for themselves, their day is punctuated by alternating moments of common or individual prayer, reading or study and work.

The cloister is the heart of the abbey. Around the cloister are the church where the monks gather seven times a day for common prayer, the " Chapter " room where community meetings are held, the refectory where they take their meals together, the cells where they study, read and sleep as well as the workshops where they carry out their various work.
